Manor Barn sits on a secluded lane outside of the picturesque village of Pulham Market in Norfolk. The land sits on a slight slope where we chose to excavate a considerable amount of soil to enable us to build a two-storey dwelling reflecting the original structure in line with planning guidance whilst keeping the new ridge height in line with the original.
The open plan design called for a considerable amount of steel framing bolted to the footings to allow us to achieve a room downstairs 7,400mm wide by 13,700mm long.
The steel work extended up to the first floor roof to account for the wind load of the upstairs balcony was 17,700mm long by 2,500mm wide with no vertical supports extending along the full width of the building. This enabled us to create a breathtaking outside living space with uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape.
